Kaserne Basel
In the heart of Kleinbasel you can find the Kaserne Basel (former Military Barracks). The newly renovated cultural centre for independent theatre and music offers with its generous and multifunctional premises an ideal setting for all sorts of events ' and this in an utterly exciting cultural environment.
The association Kaserne Basel runs the cultural house under the same name and organises guest performances and productions in the various fields of drama, dance and music. Furthermore, the association leases premises for individual events of all sorts.
The Kaserne Basel is located in the middle of Kleinbasel, right next to the banks of the Rhine and the Claraplatz and is within easy reach by tram as well as by foot. Two big halls constitute the core of this military building, which was built in 1863 and serves a reminder of the times, when the Swiss Military was in charge here. That era is long gone now and the present has a completely different look today. The Kaserne Basel stands now for an exciting multi-cultural environment.
The riding hall (Reithalle) with a total user surface of 600m2 and its impressive room atmosphere was totally renovated in 2001. The technical possibilities of this hall have been planned to enable theatre and concert productions on a very high level. The interesting complex of halls with its changing rooms, toilets, foyer area and technical rooms not only offer an ideal environment for performances, concerts and dance events, but can also be used for occasions such as exhibitions, customer events, shows, fashion shows and general assemblies.
Also the second hall (Rossstall) - with its generous layout - can be used as a meeting place for events of all sorts. With a direct access to the riding hall, the Rossstall has a user surface of 250m2. This room is suitable for smaller receptions or can serve as an entrance to a bigger event in the riding hall (such as an apero) or as party room for late hours. The services of the Kaserne Basel include technical support (in house technicians) as well as an excellent catering supplied by our Restaurant Kaserne. The two areas of events and catering are supposed to overlap. Technical aids and appliances are available for rent any time.
